Preventive Maintenance Thoughts

The Office and Maintenance have come up with several maintenance suggestions that could save you on repairs and early replacement costs:

  • Check the batteries in your smoke detectors and thermostat occasionally.
  • Change the filters in your heating/cooling system at least every other month.
  • Pour a couple of cups of bleach down all the drains at least monthly.
  • Run your garbage disposal at least monthly and pour a couple of cups of bleach into disposal before running.
  • Check your water heater occasionally for any leaks.
  • Check toilets for leaks or for any indication of rust.
  • DO NOT POUR ANY BLEACH OR CLEANER IF NOTICING ANY RUST FORMATION IN THE TANK.
  • For those with wall air conditioners, have them covered before cold weather settles in. Also, clean the filters at least four (4) times during the time of usage.
  • Vacuum under your refrigerator at least yearly. An indication of a problem is condensation forming inside the refrigerator or freezer foods "not quite freezing".
  • Check your operations manual for maintenance hints on other appliances you may have, such as humidifiers and de-humidifiers.
